A while ago at the Blackpool barcamp after starting to upgrade a fresh install, which then caused the venues internet connection to slow down even more than normal, a 3G dongle router was provided allowing the update to be completed.
The arrival of this bit of kit set off a discussion about creating an “Install Fest in a Box” which could then be made available to take to suitable events.
Items suggested included the following:
Copies of the target distrbution to gave away
A venue independent internet link for the install area
A local mirror of the target distributions repositories to save bandwidth
A mirror of (or access to) the target distribution hardware compatibility list
Power Extensions
A demonstration system
Tables
With the above items an ‘install crew’ could turn up, plug in and start installing.
